Disparagingly: In a critical or unkind way that shows you do not respect someone or something

• Others in Lahore spoke vaguely and somewhat disparagingly of him, saying he had converted to Christianity and entered a seminary in the United States.  

Draw out: Make something last longer; gently or subtly induce someone to talk more.

• He was aware of my ignorance and could not be drawn out.  

Votary: A person, such as monk or nun, who has made vows of dedication; a dedicated follower, adherent or advocate of someone or something.

• I wondered whether today's Pakistan, besieged by votaries of the militant Islam, was not more tolerant than the Pakistan of 1958.
